April 2017

Congratulations to Steve (M6VSL) for passing his 5 words-per-minute Morse Code exam on 30th March. Picture shows Steve (right) with RSGB examiner and Essex CW tutor Andy G0IBN.

Classes are held every Thursday (but check website in case of holidays) in Danbury, and has students from several clubs around Essex. TARG hold our own CW net on a Friday evening at 7.30pm on 144.250 USB-CW. Anyone is welcome to join-in the CW net or just listen and be inspired by Steve’s achievement.

Fred 2E0FRE, TARG Vice Chair with the portfolio for Health and Safety, conducted a fire drill with a roll call.

First Fred explained the importance of our duty of care towards members. Last month we had all the equipment PAT tested and this evening Fred explained where to find the different types of fire extinguisher. All very relevant to working with electrical appliances.

Our speaker for April was club member Gary M0ICG on the subject of WSPR; Weak Signal Propagation Reporter. He set up a live feed using the dinky WSPRlite box connected with an antenna at one end and a computer at the other. We were able to watch contacts being made all over the world via the large screen display.

Also, the TARGet Nite (every 3rd Friday) is becoming increasingly popular with more practical demonstrations. In March we had using a ATU and Band Plans and in April we have calculations for resistor colour codes and soldering.
