TARG’s First Club Night

Thanks to those of you who attended the first official Thames Amateur Radio Club Night last night

Despite the poor weather and local traffic problems, many new and familiar faces turned out to meet the TARG team and find out what we do.

The evening was a meet-and-greet, to give interested parties the chance to find out who makes up the TARG team, and also to shape the club’s future. Attendees were encouraged to discuss what they want from a 21st Century amateur radio club, as well as  adding suggestions to the Post It Suggestions Board. Once the team had been introduced, visitors were encouraged to introduce themselves, and outline their interests in the hobby.

We have a good mix of non-amateurs as well as experienced operators, plus two guests who passed their Foundation exam in Danbury on the previous day! Skills of the assembled audience included SOTA, CW, Contesting, PSK31, Maritime Mobile, Echolink, D-Star, packet and plenty more. It was also interesting to hear Justin Johnson G0KSC from InnovAntennas discuss this first experiences of bouncing a signals off the moon to a station in Russia for the first time.

Visitors and new members also had the chance to take a tour of the group’s fully-operational shack, which was in use as the 2 metre talk-in station, as well as a live demo of PSK31 on 20 metres.
