Training

Anyone can listen to a Radio, but TARG can help you get a Licence and show you how to trasmit on Amateur Radio for real – all around the world.

There are two types of training

(1) Get your Licence: Train to sit an examination in order to gain your Foundation Licence. That is largely theory but with TARG your understanding is considerably reinforced by our tutors giving you practical experience in operating radios. Unlike a self-taught course, your tutors are there to answer your questions.

(2) Operate your Radio: Sometimes a successful Foundation Licencee can struggle with operating amateur radio if they relied on self-study alone. This is where TARG excels in bridging the gap between theory and practice. Hands on training for licenceed operators.

Pick which level of training is right for you or your group.

Two Levels of Training on Offer

Entry: TARG is offering bespoke training to local groups on their own premises (eg cadets, scouts, but adults too) in order to gain their Foundation Licence. This training would be free as there are no premises costs. We can offer a similar course at our own venue but this would incur a charge to cover rental and catering costs and would be charged per candidate. Sitting the exam has its own fee payable to the Radio Society of Great Britain.

Continuation:  We offer 1-2-1 support at our club premises in Wickford for those who already have a Foundation Licence but are confused or lack confidence when it comes to actual operating. Our range of training and support includes, CW, FM, HF, SSB at a basic level with introduction to digital modes (DMR, D-Star, FT8, Satellite) at a more advanced level. This can be a stand alone course or by joining TARG as a member.
